Day 1: Pakse – Champasak Vat Phou temple (Lunch + Dinner)
At 8:30AM you will be picked up at your hotel in Pakse and transfer to the pier. Here you will board a local long-tail riverboat and cruise down the Mekong River, for your 2.5 hour journey to the former royal capital of Champassak.
We will arrive at 12:30 in Champasak. Upon boarding at the Vat Phou boat, we help you to your cabins to unpack, before serving lunch on deck. All meals are included on the Vat Phou Mekong cruise and our galley produces the finest of Laotian, Vietnamese and Thai dishes, lovingly prepared and beautifully presented.
Then at 14:30 we drive to the Vat Phou Temple, the highlight of the afternoon, and discover about Vat Phou Temple a ruined Khmer Hindu temple located at the base of mount Phu kao, 6 kilometres from the Mekong River. You have time to visit the museum at the ruins site, walk up to the highest temple and take as many photos as you would like.
Afte this we will return to the boat and cruise down-river. In the afternoon (around 17:00) you will enjoy a beautiful tropical sunset by the Mekong River. Dinner is served on board, while the boat docks for the night alongside a remote Laotian village. You will stay overnight at board.
Day 2: Huei Thamo – Oum Muong temple – An Deua Tia/Khong Island (BF + Lunch + Dinner)
Breakfast is on board (7:00AM) as we set sail for the village of Thamo. This is a small village a few minutes walk away from the mysterious hidden forest temple of Oum Muong. Afterwards we go back to the boat and continue our cruise southwards.
At 12:30 we lunch on deck, while we leisurely sail closer to the 4,000 Islands. Late in the afternoon (around 16:30) we land from the boat to walk through Ban Deua Tia, a small Laotian Village where the traditional way of life has not changed in centuries, you will also visit the local school and share some time with the students.
Our day’s cruise finishes at the most northern tip of Don Khong, the largest inhabited island in the river archipelago. After dinner, the evening is yours to relax and enjoy.
Day 3 Don Khone – Khone Phapheng waterfall – Pakse (BF + Lunch + Dinner)
While you have breakfast on the deck (7:00 AM), the boat cruises down the Mekong to the small village of Ban Veuthong. Here you will board a local boat to meander among the 4,000 Islands to Don Khone Island. You will visit the old French railway, the French colonial house and the bridge between Don Khone and Don Det island. Then around 12:00 o’clock you will enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant in Don Khone.
In the afternoon at 13:00 you will visit Khone Phapheng waterfalls, the “Niagara of the East”. It is the biggest waterfall in Southeast Asia and has been named the Pearl of Mekong River. After this (around 16:30) you will be transferred back to Pakse by bus where the tour will end.
