Package Itinerary

Destination: Camping in Xe Pian National protected area (NPA) in southern of Lao P.D.R

Trekking and camping is a new activitie in Xe Pian NPA. Local guides from Eco-Guide will take you deep into the jungle far away from Kietngong village.This trip is the best for those who would like a chance to experience old growth forests and sight of Wildlife. 

Note: Those who choose a trekking and camping program should be in good shape and ready for adventure, as the area is wild.

Overview

Duration: 5 days, 4 nights (we can arrange after your wishes a longer or shorter tour (1 to 9 nights).

Meeting point: Airport Pakse

A 5 day jungle trekking tour through the Xepian thick forest. See a waterfall, go swimmin, see local villages, learn about local medicine and see a lot of animals like the gibbon, bears, dears, butterflies, elephants.

Itinerary

Day 1:  Pakse  - Ban Kiet Ngong village - Tad Nokmum waterfall (Lunch + Dinner)

We will pick you up in pakse airport and drive to pakse city on the Road, No 13th south to Ban Kiet Ngong villiage 60 Km from pakse.
This village is located in the Xepain National Park, this is the living environment for the elephants. After arriving the village we will go and see the local guide and prepare what we need to carry for our trekking and camping adventure. 
We will enjoy a lunch in the village and after (at 13:00pm) we start for a trekking deep in the jungle of Xepain thick forest. While walking we pas the Phou Asa Mountain, above stands an ancient and magnificent stone structure called Vat Phou Asa.

Option: Elephants trekking up to Phou Asa Mountain is possible, if we stay overnight in Ban Kiet Ngong Village a day before the trekking.

The place where the annual elephant festival is beeing held. We continue our trek to Tad Noknum waterfall in the late afternoon. This a good place for a swim, we will take a bath and relax.

Day 2: Tad Nokmum waterfall – Vang Hang River camping spot site (BF + Lunch + Dinner)

We wake up and have an early breakfast at 7:00AM in the morning. Then we prepare ourselfs (everybody must carry things) and start our adventure. We walk with the guide directly to the head of Xepain NPA. 

We will go for lunch at Houay ko River at noon, at this time the elephants will come carriering our food for lunch and they will stay with us until day 3. Then in the afternoon around 4 - 5 o’clock the elephant will go back to the wild. After that we go directly on the site pass Mountain called: Phou Koua. Until to vang Hang River where we stop late afternoon.

Day 3: Vang Hang River Camping site – Houay ta earng ( Hin Suang ) River (BF + Lunch + Dinner)

Wake up for an early breakfast in the morning by animal’s sound of gibbons and another kind of wild animals. After breakfast and coffee we continue our trek with the Elephant through the heart of Xepain. You will practice  about using local medicines and Yang oil Tree which local people use for making fuel and torches.

Then we  explore the geen forest and trek throughout Mountain edgeways called: Phou Diin Mountain until to Houay pong Tae stream (animal’s salt lick at night time ) where we will have lunch, after that we continue to rock Houay Hin Sung River, our camping site for the third day.

Total walking time of day there is 6+Hours (20km) Arrive at HouayHin sung River in the late afternoon.
Stay overnight at Hin Sung River by tent (camping)

Elephant get back to the village in the late afternoon 

Day 4: Ta earng ( Hin Sung site – Houay pak Hong Maek River (BF + Lunch + Dinner)

After breakfast in Houay Sung River, depart 7: 00 am take 2hours on trek will see one more place of Salt lick area calld : pong por saltlick. Normally wild animals comes to lick this place. We will have lunch at this area.  Along the way trek we will see bears, deers and pigs’ 

We continue our journey in the afternoon to Houay pak Hong Maek River, called: Ta Earng by local people. A comfortable place to relax and swim and a place where you can see local people catching a fish.

Day 5: Houay pak Hong Maek River – Houay keua – Ban Kiet Ngong (BF + Lunch)

Wake up for an early breakfast again and  after breakfast and coffee, we continue our trek Throughout the jungle forest of Xepain NPA. We will see products that villagers sell to make money like, Maek Chont, a fruit medicine. Nearby these villages is the thick- open forest.

Along the trek you will learn new experiences en you will get information for example about the Theak: one kind of amphibians,very Smal;l, that quickly bite and drink blood. Especially in rainy season from july to September of year.

After that continue to Hong May Xod stream or Houay keua River where we will stop for our lunch for that day. After lunch we continue our journey to the village and then take a bus back to paske. Here we will drop you off at your hotel or the airport.

Other information

    What tourists need to bring:
  • A good backpack (you will be asked to help carry food).
  • A sleeping bag and a mattress are an option, you will be provided if you don’t have your own.
  • Valuables in a plastic bag to protect them from water during walking and sleep time.
  • Bring one change of clothes, sandals, hiking shoes, hat.
  • A flashlight (no electricity in the forest) sunscreen, mosquito repellent.
  • Medicine (let us know if you have any disabilities or health problems).

Level of dificulty:
Medium difficult 6+hours of solid trekking per day! You have to be in a good physical condition.(Always ask for help when you are feeling sick). Be prepared for walking through small streams and be extra careful on River crossing, which can be dangerous.
