Package Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Luang Prabang (Breakfast)

     Meet and greet at Luang Prabang International Airport then transfer to your hotel for check in. Afternoon, a short cycling tour around the town nearby areas including Ban Phone Hueang, Ban Aphay, Ban Visun to observe lives of locals, another visit to handmade Photisak silver shop and Minority Art Center. Last but not least, a visit to Wat Phabat Tai, a monastery complex built in the 17th century, a best place to view sunset if visiting in the evening. In the late evening, we will start climbing up about 300 steps to witness the memorable sunset from Mt Phousi, one of the most unforgettable sights of this tour.

     Luang Prabang is one of the most unique cities and charming town in Laos with its World Heritage, abundant natural blessings of water and greenery, art and archaeological sites. Because of its rich cultural, historic and harmonious relationship between the natural and built environment, the town was later declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1995.

Day 02: Luang Prabang (Breakfast)

     Early rise at 5.30am to experience Alms offering along the street of Luang Prabang. Silent lines of saffron-clad monks walk down the streets of Luang Prabang with barefoot to collect alms. The locals are there, ready with full basket of sticky rice; every monk gets a bit in their bowl. (Please observe from a respectful distance and maintain silence while witnessing this sacred ceremony). We then explore the morning market where minority come down to trade their fresh produce, rice, Mekong river fish, homemade cakes and many more before returning to hotel for breakfast.

     After our breakfast, take a guided tour to the former Royal Palace that was constructed in 1904. It is now known as the National Museum (note: closed on Tuesday). The former palace displays a lovely collection of personal artifacts of the Royal family, photos, musical instruments and gifts received from foreigners. Continue on foot to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief. Finish this morning’s tour at Wat Xieng Thong, the most revered temple in Luang Prabang. The ornate carved and gilded funeral vehicle of the former king is kept in one of       the buildings in the temple grounds. The intricate golden facades, colorful murals, glass mosaics and unique three-tiered roof make this one of the most beautiful temples in Asia.

       Afternoon, visit Photisak silver shop and Traditional Arts & Ethnology Center; the Art center dedicated to exploring the rich diversity of Laos’ ethnic minorities. Traditional costumes, tools, and artifacts are on display alongside in-depth descriptions and written histories. It is a great opportunity to gain insight in to the Lao people (note: closed on Monday).

Day 03: Luang Prabang – Nongkiaw (Breakfast)

        Breakfast then drive to Nongkiaw for about 2.5hours. Nong Kiaw is a small rustic town by the bridge where the Route 1 to Sam Neua and Vietnam crosses the Ou River. This little settlement is blessed with probably the some of the most attractive natural settings in Northern Laos. Vertical Limestone Mountains with a river that runs through it takes the breath away. Up on arrival transfer to your accommodation. Afternoon, Visit the famous Pha Toke Cave 2 km east of town. This is where the Pathet Lao forces had their provincial headquarter during the war in the sixties and early seventies. Two km west of town you will find another strategic cave which functioned as a weapon storage until it took a hit by an American plane.

Day 04: Nong Kiaw – Muang Ngoi – Nongkiaw (Breakfast)

A day exploring this incredibly beautiful region and trekking through three villages.

      In the morning, take the fishing boat about 15 minutes upstream on Nam Ou river to Ban Sokkhan, a Lao Loum(low land Lao) village, after visit these village, begin to trek 2 hours through rice field to Ban Pha Yoong ( Hmong ethnic village), and Ban Tad Lene ( Khmu village). After picnic lunch, we continue trekking to the village of Ban Sopkong, from there, we return to Muang Ngoi by boat. We will do a short visit here at Muang Ngoi before returning to Nongkiaw for your night.

Day 05: Nongkiaw – Luang Prabang (Breakfast)

       Boarding a small private boat this morning you chug leisurely downriver to Luang Prabang. Arrive at the confluent Nam Ou and Mekong visit the sacred of Pak Ou Caves, locally called Tham Ting – underground sanctuaries venerated for centuries – it houses of thousand of gold lacquered of Buddha statues crammed into two caves, the upper and the lower, carved out of a towering limestone cliff. The statues range in size from a few centimeters tall to the size of a human, and the view from the mouth of the cave provides sweeping views of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. The caves are as well a destination for local pilgrimages, especially during the Lao New Year period of Pii Mai. Short visit to Ban Shang Hai – a small fishing village that specializes in producing Lao Lao (fermented rice liquor). Arriving in Luang Prabang late afternoon then transfer to your hotel for check in.
